Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a unattended item of luggage discovered on a ferry moored at Hull Docks.

Humberside Police said the suspect package was found on the Pride of York ferry at about 09:00 BST, shortly after it arrived from Zeebrugge, in Belgium.

A force spokesman said ferry staff were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

He said: "It is not believed that the item was anything other than left luggage."

A spokeswoman for P&O Ferries said the incident would not affect sailings to Zeebrugge and Rotterdam scheduled to depart later on Thursday.
