"Harrowing" CCTV footage of a man attacking and robbing an 89-year-old pensioner with dementia in her home has been released.

Alice Swale was knocked to the floor as Dwayne Hollingworth, 27, "forcefully removed the rings from her fingers", Humberside Police said.

She was left in distress while he searched her house for more items.

Hollingworth, 27, was jailed for nine-and-a-half years on Monday at Hull Crown Court.

Mrs Swale required hospital treatment after suffering severe bruising to her fingers during the attack in Hull on 6 April.

The pensioner, who was in shock, managed to call police shortly before 17:00 BST and Hollingworth, of Annandale Road, was arrested six hours later after officers saw footage from the CCTV, which her family had installed in her house.

Det Con Lee Sims said Hollingworth had "tricked his way into the pensioner's home" to carry out "a despicable offence against a very vulnerable elderly woman".

"The CCTV footage of the incident is harrowing to watch with the victim weakly trying to protect herself as Hollingworth ripped the rings off her fingers," he said.

"The incident itself left the victim very shaken and her family was devastated she'd been targeted in this way."

Hollingworth pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and other offences including shoplifting and battery at a previous crown court hearing on 11 May.
