Police have named a man who died after being stabbed in Hull street after a "violent altercation" involving a number of people.

Mateusz Szleper, 21, was found collapsed on West Parade on Sunday.

Mr Szleper, who lived near to the scene of the attack in the Spring Bank area, later died of his injuries in Hull Royal Infirmary.

Humberside Police said two men, aged 30 and 38, who were arrested on suspicion of murder, remained in custody.

Det Ch Insp Matthew Baldwin appealed for witnesses to come forward.

"We believe an altercation amongst a group of individuals in the West Parade/Spring Bank area at around 18:00 GMT on Sunday preceded the death of this young man," he said.

"Whilst our officers continue to undertake local enquiries with area searches and detailed examination of CCTV, information from the public is also sought.

"We know that a number of people were out and about in the vicinity and it is likely someone will have seen something which could be of importance to our investigation."
