Hundreds of homes in Hull are still without gas after a leak lead to supplies being cut off earlier this week.

The supply was cut to about 400 homes in the Bricknell Avenue area after water from a burst pipe got into the gas mains on Tuesday.

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) said "around a dozen properties" had been reconnected so far.

The company is providing those affected with electric heaters and hotplates.

A drop-in centre has also been set up in a local school.

Sian Fletcher from NGN said work to reconnect the houses was "progressing well".

"We've actually have removed around 9,000 litres of water now from the gas mains, which is really positive. But work continues to remove more water," she said.

"The first few properties were put back on gas last night. We're hoping to be able to restore a number more today."
