Beeford 'arson' attack destroys £40,000 of hay

A man has been arrested after hay valued at £40,000 was destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

The fire was discovered by officers at about 02:05 GMT on Wednesday in Beverley Road, Beeford, near Driffield.

A Humberside Police spokesman said a 53-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of arson and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the force.

Rural crime officer Julie Turrell said: "Why someone would deliberately set fire to a store of straw is difficult to comprehend."
