Pregnant woman 'stabbed in stomach by former boyfriend'

A woman was stabbed five times in the stomach by her masked ex-boyfriend while she was seven months pregnant, a court has heard.

Cage fighter Nicholas Leaning from Scunthorpe is accused of Lauren Oliver's attempted murder, wounding with intent and attempting to destroy the life of a child.

Ms Oliver, from North Lincolnshire, told Hull Crown Court she needed an emergency caesarean after the stabbing.

Mr Leaning, 28, denies all the charges.

The baby survived. The alleged attack happened at her home in Ashtree Close in Belton, on 11 June.

She told the court she recognised the attacker as her ex-boyfriend because of his clothes and because he was wearing a mask he wore while training as a cage fighter.

The jury heard Ms Oliver believed Mr Leaning had tried to kill the baby because he claimed it was not his and he had encouraged her to have an abortion.

She denied she had stabbed herself to get back at Mr Leaning, who was in another relationship.

The trial continues.
