Part of a road in Scunthorpe remains closed following a gas explosion that injured one person.

Homes and businesses in Ashby Road were evacuated following the blast on Tuesday.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said a gas main was fractured while work was being carried out.

A man suffered a broken thigh bone and had to be rescued when he became trapped. He was airlifted to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

North Lincolnshire Council said part of the road between Queensway Roundabout and Lloyds Avenue remained closed to vehicles while engineers worked to repair the pipe.

Humberside Police said its investigation into the cause of the explosion would be passed on to the Health and Safety Executive.
