Baby in critical condition after pregnant mother stabbed

A baby whose pregnant mother was stabbed while it was still in the womb is in a critical condition in hospital.

The 25-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant, suffered serious injuries in the attack at Ashtree Close, Belton, North Lincolnshire on Wednesday.

She was taken to Scunthorpe General hospital where the baby was delivered.

Humberside Police have arrested two men, a 28-year-old who is "known to the woman" and a 45-year-old.

Det Insp Alan Curtis, who is leading the investigation, said: "I am looking to speak to anyone who may have information in connection with this incident.

"No matter how big or small you think this information might be, it could be vital to the investigation.

"I am particularly keen on speaking to anyone who may have seen one of two vehicles, either in the vicinity of Ashtree Close around the time the incident took place, or if anyone saw either of these vehicles driving away from Belton in the direction of Scunthorpe.

"Those vehicles are a silver coloured Ford Focus and a red coloured Seat Leon.

"As part of the investigation we have spoken to a number of witnesses. However, I think there are people out there who know something and may not have come forward.

"You don't have to call us, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously and provide whatever information you have."
