A driver escaped with minor injuries when his lorry plunged from a motorway bridge and burst into flames.

The vehicle, which was carrying fertiliser, slid across the M18 near Goole in East Yorkshire when one of its tyres burst, Humberside Police said.

The crash on Thursday afternoon led to parts of the M18 and M62 being closed for nearly 12 hours.

The 61-year-old driver was airlifted to hospital and treated for cuts, bruises and a dislocated shoulder, police said.
