Police have identified a man who died after being found seriously injured in a Hull street on New Year's Day.

Humberside Police said Steve Herbert was "the victim of a sustained assault".

The 34-year-old died in hospital shortly after being found by officers on the corner of Trafalgar Street and Beverley Road at about 06:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Five people arrested after his death have now been released on bail.

Det Supt Christine Wilson, head of the force's major investigation team, said a £5,000 reward was on offer for information about Mr Herbert's murder.

She said: "As a result of studying CCTV we are now specifically looking to identify key witnesses and potential suspects in relation to an incident on Beverley Road in Hull on New Year's Day which we strongly believe led to the death of Steve.

"We have sourced both moving CCTV footage and stills which capture several individuals in the area, some of whom we have managed to speak to and others who we urge to come forward."
