IPCC probe Humberside Police over woman's custody care

The police watchdog is investigating the care given by police in Hull to a woman who became seriously ill after being in custody.

The woman, 22, was arrested after reports of break-ins on 25 October.

She was taken to hospital after apparently self-harming before going back to Clough Road police station.

She was later sectioned under the Mental Health Act and taken to a mental health unit before becoming seriously ill and going to hospital.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said it would look into the woman's care while in custody.

A spokesman said the woman remained in a serious condition in hospital.

Humberside Police said it had voluntarily referred the case to the IPCC.
