River Ouse rescue for blazing boat pair
Two people had to be rescued from the River Ouse after abandoning their boat which caught fire and sank.
The 36ft (11m) boat was reported to be "floating freely" from Blacktoft towards Reedness in East Yorkshire at about 08:00 BST, Humber Rescue said.
Fire crews tackled the blaze from the shore while lifeboat volunteers rescued the pair, who had left the boat "in fear of their own safety".
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was unknown.
A spokesperson said no-one was hurt.
The river was closed to shipping while the blaze was dealt with.
Graham Anderson, from Humber Rescue, said the fire had posed a danger to other boats on the river.
"The heat would have been quite intense," he said.
"Plus, you don't know what's going to explode, so obviously you've got to keep your distance from the vessel.
"Luckily, the people had got into the small boat so they were at a safe distance so we can safely transfer them on to the rescue boat."
