Driver arrested over East Halton pedestrian crash death

A man has been arrested after a 79-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle crash in North Lincolnshire.

The pedestrian was on a footpath in East Halton when she was struck in the collision on Tuesday at 21:24 GMT.

She was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary but later died.

Police said a 26-year-old local man, who was unhurt in the crash, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was due to be questioned by officers later.

A 29-year-old driver of one of the cars suffered minor injuries and her female passenger, 20, suffered shock. Both are from Immingham.

Humberside Police said it was believed the 29-year-old driver had stopped her car at the side of the road to offer the pedestrian a lift home.

Officers have appealed for witnesses.
