North Lincolnshire Council aims to stop metal thefts

Incidents involving the theft of metal across North Lincolnshire are to be discussed by senior councillors, police and Safer Neighbourhoods teams.

Council leader Liz Redfearn wants updates on the latest initiatives to deal with thieves cashing in on the rising value of metals.

In recent months an increase in cable thefts left some communities repeatedly without phone services.

Ms Redfearn said she wanted assurances everything possible was being done.

The Neighbourhood Partnership teams are expected to reveal that instances of metal thefts are beginning to decline.

But Ms Redfearn said: "Metal theft is a growing problem locally and I will be seeking assurances that everything possible is being done to combat the problem.

"I know a lot of work behind the scenes has been undertaken to tackle the problem.

"We will find out how successful this has been and where we go from here."
