Water vole population increases in Goole

The number of water voles has increased in East Yorkshire after a "habitat heroes" project was set-up this year.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust surveyed its estate in Goole to discover 10 new water vole populations.

The survey also found other wildlife including roe deer and kestrels.

Carys Hutton, at the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, said the progress was "a great indicator that water vole populations are establishing themselves and are growing".

The project was set up earlier this year to help preserve the protected rodent.
