New speed limits for North Lincolnshire's rural roads

New speed limits will be introduced on more than 50 roads across North Lincolnshire from next year.

A new 30mph restriction will be enforced through villages near Brigg and Scunthorpe, while speed limits on other roads could be reduced.

Howsham will be one of the first of those villages to see a reduction, from 40mph to 30mph.

North Lincolnshire Council is hoping the changes will reduce the number of accidents on the roads.

Neil Norvock, from North Lincolnshire Council, said the change in speed limits followed guidance from the Department for Transport.

He said of the speed limit change: "It tends to polarise people, they either love them or hate them, but we received a lot of good comments.

"We fed those comments back into the process. We've gone away and reviewed those and now eventually come up with what we believe will be a better set of speed limits on our network."

The council expects to introduce the changes from early next year.

One Howsham resident said: "The biggest problem really is not changing speed limits, it will be educating people that are driving on them to drive to the conditions."
