Ellerker in East Yorkshire hit by power cut

About 36 homes in the East Yorkshire village of Ellerker have been hit by a power cut.

Residents in the Mill Hill, Croft Hill Road and Howden Croft Hill areas have been affected.

The power cut is thought to have been caused by a cable theft. Police said a crime had been reported in the early hours of the morning.

Resident Harry Hotson, 79, said he noticed the lights in his home flicker at about 02:30 BST.

He said: "We have a gas boiler which is in my bedroom and it was buzzing - it was making a loud noise.

"When I switched it off the electric light was flickering and straight away I thought something was wrong."

Electricity distribution company YEDL said it was working to restore power to the properties.
