A 17-year-old pupil from a Hull school has won a national engineering competition after designing a pair of jeans that double as a drum kit.

Aseem Mishra, from Hymers College in west Hull, won the senior age group title at the Young Engineer of Great Britain Competition.

The jeans allow wearers to tap out a tune on their thighs by hitting sensors woven into the fabric.

Aseem won a trophy and a prize of £1000 for his invention.

He received the award at the Big Bang Science Fair, held earlier this month in London.

He is now to go on to represent the UK at a science and engineering fair in Los Angeles in May.
