One dies in collision on A15 near Humber Bridge

A woman has died after being involved in a crash with a number of vehicles on a main road near the Humber Bridge, police have said.

Officers were called to the A15 southbound at the B1206 Barrow turn-off at 0615 GMT on Thursday.

Police said the local woman was aged in her 40s and that the exact circumstances of the incident remained unclear.

The road was closed on Thursday while inquiries took place.

The incident led to lengthy delays for some vehicles in the morning rush hour.

Humberside Police appealed for motorists who were in the area at the time of the collision to contact them.

A spokeswoman said: "A number of vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision with a person, who has died. However, the exact circumstances of the incident are unclear at this time.

"One vehicle came off the carriageway, but the driver was uninjured."

A 30mph speed limit was put in place on the Humber Bridge, and vehicles travelling south over the bridge were diverted through Barton.
