A multi-agency safety group has been set up in North Lincolnshire to try to raise awareness of the dangers posed by open water such as ponds and lakes.

The group includes representatives from the fire service, police, council and ambulance service.

Its formation comes after the death of 12-year-old Lebohang Carrington Sibanda who drowned in Ashbyville Pond in Scunthorpe in May 2008.

Rescue plans will be drawn up and life-saving equipment placed at some sites.

Risk assessments will also be carried out at all areas of open water in North Lincolnshire.

The group's plan is subject to approval from North Lincolnshire Council's cabinet, which meets on Wednesday.
