North Lincolnshire Council names priority grit routes

North Lincolnshire Council has drawn up a plan of priority routes which will be gritted if salt is scarce again this winter.

The authority has warned if salt supplies run low, many roads in the county will go untreated.

Priority routes chosen include areas around Scunthorpe General Hospital, Doncaster Road and parts of Ashby.

The council said estate roads, cycle paths, minor footpaths and tourist attractions were low priority.

Councillor Bernard Regan said: "We are determined to do all we can to ensure main routes are kept open - particularly for the emergency services.

"Last year we salted about 50% of our roads, compared to a national target of around 36%.

"Due to the national shortage of salt last year, we are as prepared as we can be. And that's why we've identified a list of roads that we will treat during times of salt shortages."
