Herefordshire out-of-hours GP pilot scheme launched
A pilot scheme for out-of-hours GP appointments has begun in Herefordshire.
Three medical hubs offer weekend and evening appointments with local GPs, rather than agency doctors, for both emergency and non-emergency cases.
The hubs, in Ross, Hereford and Leominster are open from 18:00 - 20:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 - 20:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
A new data-sharing system allows doctors to access patient's records.
Patients have to give their consent before doctors can see their medical history online and can opt-out if they do not want their records to be part of the system.
Dr Nigel Fraser, one of the GPs involved, said: "Within seconds we can pull up the patient's records via a secure system the NHS has provided."
The scheme is being run by Taurus Healthcare, which is owned and run by the partners at 24 GP practices in Herefordshire.
