Man rescued from Worcester flat fire

Fire crews have rescued a man from a flat fire in Worcester city centre.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to John Gwyn House on Newport Street at 12:48 BST.

Six fire engines were called to the scene and crews were working to make the flat safe, a fire service spokesperson said.

Nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution, they added. Two lanes of Bridge Street remain closed to traffic.

The service tweeted: "All persons accounted for, 1 casualty taken to hospital. Search now in progress for fire spread, 3 hosereels 2 jets used."
