£2m to improve Bromsgrove street

Two million pounds is to be spent on improving a high street in a Worcestershire town.

The changes to Bromsgrove High Street should be finished by 2013 with the first phase, removing trees near the AE Houseman statue, beginning next month.

Other improvements will include better lighting and redesigning the layout of the market.

The money is being provided by the district council and Worcestershire County Council.

A spokesman said the final design has yet to be finalised.

The trees are being moved because they obstruct CCTV and cause access problems to shops, a council spokesman said. He added that each tree removed would be replaced elsewhere.
