Hereford power cut after lorry substation crash

Up to 800 homes and businesses in Hereford were without power earlier after a lorry struck a substation in the city centre.

Police say they were called to the incident on Station Approach, off Commercial Road, at 00:37 BST.

A spokesman for Western Power Distribution said that less than 100 properties were still without power by 09:00 BST.

They added that the building housing the substation needed to be demolished.

Two mobile generators were taken in to help restore power to those affected while a fire crew remains in attendance due to the unsafe nature of the building.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said its crew had isolated all electronic equipment inside the substation.
