Murder accused remanded over Alvechurch attack

A 20-year-old man from Birmingham has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a man assaulted at a pub in Worcestershire.

John Parkinson, 50, from Alvechurch, was attacked at the Red Lion Inn in the village on Saturday and died in hospital.

Joshua Davis, of Marden Grove, West Heath, appeared before Redditch magistrates charged with murder.

He is due to appear before Worcester Crown Court on Monday.

Four bailed

As part of the inquiry, a woman in her 20s from the Birmingham area was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

She is being held for questioning in north Worcestershire.

Another woman and two men were arrested earlier in the week on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and have been bailed until 28 February.

Police also arrested a woman on Sunday on suspicion of assisting an offender. She has also been bailed until 28 February.
