Bodenham Arboretum hit by snow closures

A large Worcestershire attraction has been financially hit by the adverse weather conditions.

Bodenham Arboretum in Kidderminster has reopened after being forced to close for 10 days because of heavy snowfall.

Owner James Binnian said it had been a difficult time for the attraction which includes a visitor centre, a restaurant and 156 acres of woodland.

He said its closure had also had a substantial "knock-on effect" on the smaller businesses it works with.

'Completely closed'

Mr Binnian said: "We have not done any business at all. We have not taken a penny, we have been completely closed.

"So we've lost our margin on whatever takings we would have had and I would say we are 40% down on gross takings.

And there would also be another effect on the smaller businesses that supply us."

Worcestershire saw heavy snowfall during the week before Christmas, with some areas seeing more than 1ft (30cm) of snow on the ground.

It led to bus and train service cancellations as well as tailbacks on the M5, with some motorists delayed by three hours during the worst conditions.
