Schools shut due to bad weather

Three schools in Worcestershire and Herefordshire have been closed during the cold weather.

Michaelchurch Escley Primary School, in Hereford, will stay shut on Tuesday due to a burst water pipe but plans to be open on Wednesday.

In Worcestershire, Clent Parochial Primary School in Clent was closed after a burst water tank led to flooding.

Pendock CE Primary School, in Pendock, was also shut due to a burst pipe.

WH Smith, on Vicar Street, Kidderminster, was flooded on Sunday afternoon when a water pipe froze and burst.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said people should double check that pipes were fully insulated.

Kidderminster crew manager Tony Wilks said: "We are keen to encourage everyone to do what they can to prevent pipes freezing and bursting, especially with the cold snap set to continue."

He said people should check where their property's stop tap wan and know how to turn off both the water and electrics in an emergency.
