A by-election has been called after the leader of Worcestershire County Council stepped down from his role.

The election, for the Alvechurch ward, will be held on 16 December. Nominations close on 19 November.

Dr George Lord quit as leader and a Conservative councillor after separate allegations were made that he had acted inappropriately towards staff.

West Mercia Police has said it is investigating an alleged historical sexual offence against a woman.
