Historic Worcester building firm ceases trading

A Worcester building firm with over 80 years history in the city has ceased trading, leaving its 40 staff unsure if they will be paid.

Spicers (Builders) Ltd was established in 1929 and was responsible for building Worcester Porcelain Museum and Sansome Walk swimming pool.

The staff were informed of the development at 1030 GMT on Thursday.

Ronnie Roberts, who was at the firm for 10 years, says his colleagues were left "in shock".

He added: "Some of the lads were really gutted. They had worked there for 40 years."

Financial company Smith & Williamson have been taken on to assist in placing the company into creditors' voluntary liquidation.
