Metal thieves hit dialysis centre in Hereford

Kidney patients in Hereford were deprived of air conditioning after a unit was stolen by metal thieves.

The thieves took the unit and copper piping from the roof of the Hereford Dialysis Centre in Tillington Road.

West Mercia Police said the theft occurred some time between 25 and 30 September.

The theft was only discovered when an engineer visited the site to find out why the centre's air conditioning had not been working for several days.

Acting Det Ch Insp Richard Rees, of Hereford CID, said: "It is pretty disgusting that a medical facility should be targeted in this way, as this theft could easily have had serious repercussions for patients that rely on the centre."

He said because of the size of the heating system there would probably have been two or three people involved and a vehicle parked nearby.

Anyone with information should call West Mercia Police or Crimestoppers.
