Man, 47, dies after river rescue in Worcester

A 47-year-old man has died after apparently jumping from a bridge into the River Severn at Worcester.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near the Southern Link Road at about 1840 BST on Monday.

Witnesses said the man climbed over railings and jumped off the bridge, a West Mercia Police spokesman said.

An off-duty paramedic rescued the man from the water and he was treated by paramedics at the scene. He was taken to hospital and died soon afterwards.
