Dozens of electric blankets in Herefordshire 'unsafe'

More than a third of electric blankets brought to safety testing sessions in Herefordshire were found to be unsafe.

A total of 130 were tested Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury and Leominster, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said.

Sixteen blankets brought to each of the fire stations failed the stringent safety checks, it added.

Darren Packwood, from community safety, said: "Thankfully we have very few incidents linked to defective electric blankets."

He added: "But some of the blankets brought along this week had the potential to be life threatening."
