Border police arrest Hereford curry restaurant chef
An illegal worker has been arrested at an Indian restaurant in Herefordshire.
UK border agency officers visited the Cinnamon Club on Bridge Street, Hereford on 25 August and checked the work permits of five members of staff.
A 29-year-old Bangladeshi man was found to have overstayed his visa and had no permission to stay in the country.
He was placed on immigration bail and asked to report to police or border agency officers while plans are made to remove him from the UK.
The restaurant could now face a £10,000 fine for employing the chef illegally, unless it can prove the correct right-to-work checks were carried out before he was hired, the agency said.
