Man found 'clinging' to sea wall in Cowes

A man was rescued from the sea after being found clinging to a sea wall.

Police and coastguards were called just after 01:40 GMT to help the man who had gone into the water off Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Cowes lifeboat was called to help the man near the Royal Yacht Squadron where helmsman Mark Harker went in the water to assess his condition.

The man was brought to shore and transferred to an ambulance. It is not known how he came to be in the water.
