A 71-year-old who died when he was hit by a car as he attempted to direct traffic has been described as a "kind, caring and generous man" by his family.

Graham Manning, from Poole, was struck by a people carrier on the A35 at Burley, Hampshire, on Tuesday.

Police are investigating reports he had been attempting to guide drivers around an earlier incident.

A tribute released through police said Mr Manning would be "sadly missed by family and many friends".

Hampshire Constabulary said Mr Manning had been struck by a Mitsubishi Space Star, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A35 was closed for several hours while collision investigators inspected the scene.
