One person has been taken to hospital after a blaze at two houses in Southampton.

The man was suffering from smoke inhalation after the fire at the terraced properties in Mortimer Road, Woolston.

Firefighters arrived shortly after 08:00 GMT and brought the blaze under control about an hour later.

The fire is believed to have started in the roof of one of the houses before spreading to the second address.

A spokesman said fire crews were confident it would not spread to any neighbouring properties.

Station manager Micky Smither said the cause was "not suspicious", and an investigation was under way.
