A woman has died after she was hit by a lorry on the A31 in Hampshire.

The 72-year-old was struck at Poulner Hill, on the eastbound carriageway of the road, shortly before 08:00 BST.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene but she later died from her injuries after being taken to hospital.

Hampshire Constabulary said no arrests had been made and the force was appealing for witnesses to the crash, which led to a four-hour road closure and five-mile (8km) tailbacks.

The road has since reopened.
