Attempted murder charge over Portsmouth 'hammer' attack

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a hammer attack on a 17-year-old girl.

The incident at a property in Shearer Road, Portsmouth, on 11 April left the teenager with "life-changing" injuries.

James Hemming, 28, from Cross Street, in the city is in custody and will appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court later.

Hampshire Constabulary previously said the attack took place at a property with possible links to the sex trade.

It gave advice on personal safety to sex workers via charities and support groups after the attack.

In the past two weeks, police have offered a reward and staged a reconstruction.
