The victims of a light aircraft crash in Hampshire have been named as a married couple whose six-year-old son remains critically ill in hospital.

Lewis Tonkinson, 50, and Sally Tonkinson, 44, of Cookhill, Worcestershire, died in the crash on Saturday afternoon.

The aircraft came down in Blackwood Forest, south of the A303 near Popham airfield.

Their son is being treated at Southampton General Hospital.

Twenty-five firefighters fought the blaze at the crash site.

Police are still at the scene and the Air Accident Investigation Branch is carrying out an assessment.

The aircraft is due to be removed later.

It had taken off from Bembridge on the Isle of Wight earlier on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Post mortem examinations will take place on Tuesday.
