Isle of Wight £10 disabled allowance scrapped
A £10 a week disability allowance has been scrapped on the Isle of Wight.
Councillors have agreed the money, which comes on top of any state benefits, will now be means tested.
Adult social care cabinet member Steve Stubbings said: "We're not intending to take money away from those that need it - merely, I think it's fair to say, from those that don't."
The change which forms part of a £28m savings plan over three years will come into effect on 1 November.
About 1,300 people on the island currently receive the £10 a week in addition to their state disability benefit.
The proposal came from the independent-run council following a two-month consultation.
