An air and sea search for a missing crewman from a cruise ship heading into Southampton has been called off.

Colleagues on the MSC Opera raised the alarm shortly before 06:00 BST after reviewing CCTV footage.

A coastguard helicopter and Bembridge RNLI lifeboat carried out a search 17 nautical miles (31km) south of the Isle of Wight but nothing was found.

The company said family of the 33-year-old Indian national had been informed.

An MSC statement said the man was a bartender who had worked with the company since 2007.
