Danny Apicella's Colden Common crash death devastates family

The death of a man in a car crash in Hampshire has left his family shocked and devastated.

Danny Apicella, 24, was confirmed dead at the scene of the crash, on Portsmouth Road between Colden Common and Lower Upham, on Friday.

His passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to Southampton General Hospital and is in a critical condition.

In a statement, Mr Apicella's family said they were struggling to take in "this tragic news".

'Dark days ahead'

"Danny was a colourful character and known by many," they said.

"He has been taken from us far too soon and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

"Our worlds have fallen apart. Danny leaves behind a beautiful daughter who will be our cherished ray of sunshine through these dark days ahead."

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the crash, which happened at about at about 22:20 BST, or the old-style red Mini being driven before is crashed.

Det Sgt Greg Willcox said: "We are aware of a red Ford Focus, an 08 plate, which was seen driving from the Colden Common area towards Bishop Waltham and believe it could have passed the incident at the time.

"We would like to speak to the occupants of the car as potential witnesses and ask them to please contact us."
