Flybe passenger plane forced to turn back

A passenger plane flying from Southampton to Jersey had to turn off an engine and return to the airport following a technical fault.

The Flybe flight BE229 landed safely at Southampton airport after the captain decided to shut down the number two engine as a safety precaution.

All 34 passengers were re-accommodated onto another flight.

An airline spokesman said the Bombardier Q400 aircraft is designed to fly safely on one engine.
