Firefighters in Basingstoke tackle rubbish blaze

Firefighters have tackled a rubbish fire at a waste traders' premises in Basingstoke.

Crews were called to the fire at Basingstoke Skip Hire in Wade Road just before 04:00 BST.

The service said 32 firefighters attended the site where 100 tonnes of demolition waste was on fire in an open shed.

A special equipment unit was called in and a fire break was created with a mechanical digger.

Firefighters said the fire was under control but staff would remain on site damping down.
