Christmas Island H-bomb veteran hopes for court ruling

Help

A Hampshire man who was exposed to nuclear radiation during atomic tests in the 1950s is hoping the fight for veterans' compensation may be coming to an end.

Raymond Atkinson from Gosport was 19 when the RAF sent him to the South Pacific in 1958.

He believes his chronic skin problems and wife's miscarriages were caused by exposure to H-bomb tests on Christmas Island.

The MoD has always denied a link between test exposure and illness.

After having several requests for compensation turned down, the Supreme Court has granted leave for veterans to appeal which will be heard in November.
