Gravel quarry plans near country park anger residents

Help

Campaigners are fighting plans to use heathland on the Hampshire/Dorset border near Verwood as a quarrying site which could then be used for landfill after extraction has taken place.

Hampshire County Council wants to earmark a 700,000 sq m site - the size of 157 football pitches next to Moors Valley Country Park.

Campaigners say the plan should be dropped as they already have a landfill site, Blue Haze on the opposite side of the road to the proposed quarry.

The council says there will be further opportunities for people to engage in the consultation before a public inquiry next Spring.
