Large explosion heard in Eastleigh linked to bonfire
A large explosion heard in a Hampshire town has been linked to a bonfire.
Residents reported hearing a loud bang in the Eastleigh area at about 2230 GMT on Monday night.
Firefighters arrived at the scene in Chadwick Road where they found a "controlled" blaze at a residential address.
A spokesman said it was unclear what had caused the explosion and the bonfire was left to continue to burn.
Police also attended the scene and could not find any evidence of an explosion.
Officers appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
Bonfires are legal but the authorities can act if dangerous or harmful materials are burned.
The BBC received several reports of an explosion while numerous messages were posted on the social networking site Twitter.
