Southampton footballer Lee Barnard charged with assault

A footballer has been charged in connection with an alleged attack outside a Southampton pub which left a man unconscious with head injuries.

Lee Barnard, a striker for the League One club, is accused of assault causing actual bodily harm outside the city's White House bar on 3 October.

Mr Barnard, 26, of Ocean Village, Southampton, was charged with two other men and all have been bailed.

They are due to appear before Southampton magistrates on 2 February.

Liam Shelton, 26, from Shakespeare Avenue, Billericay, Essex, was charged with assault by battery and David Jones, 31, from Rowan Gardens, Hedge End, Hampshire, was charged with obstructing a police officer and threatening behaviour.

A fourth man, aged 25 and also from Billericay, has been released with no further action.
