A woman died when her car left the road and hit a tree in Hampshire.

The 20-year-old from Whitehill, near Bordon, was driving a Citroen Saxo on the A31 at Four Marks when the crash happened shortly before 0800 GMT.

The woman died at the scene and the road was closed for five hours while investigations took place.

Police said icy conditions were thought to have contributed to three separate crashes on the M3. Two cars overturned but no-one was injured.

The motorway was closed northbound from junction nine for about two-and-a-half hours while gritters treated the roads and the vehicles were recovered.

The A303 at Micheldever Station was also closed eastbound for a time because of an overturned car.

Another accident temporarily blocked the same road at Upper Bullington. Both stretches of road were clear by 1100 GMT.

Meanwhile, the A33 was also closed near the junction with the A30 because of a house fire.
